When was the last time you did something by yourself? Went to a movie, ate dinner at a restaurant, or even just went for a walk?
Doing things independently can be a really great way to get to know yourself better and grow your confidence. But for some people, it’s really hard to do things without someone else there.
For many people, doing things alone can be scary. They feel like they are missing out on all the fun, or they might feel embarrassed to be seen doing things alone.
In this blog post, we will discuss some tips on how to enjoy being alone and stop being scared of doing things by yourself!
Doing, not thinking
One of the best ways to get over your fear of doing things alone is to just go for it.
Don’t spend too much time thinking about it. Your mind will come up with a whole host of crazy scenarios as to why you shouldn’t. In reality, you have nothing to worry about!
You’ll feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when you actually go through with it. Once you overcome this hurdle and you’re more comfortable being alone, it’ll feel like second nature.
Bring a book, or listen to a podcast
If you’re heading out for a solo walk or going out to eat, consider bringing a book along with you. This will help to keep you busy and help the time fly by.
Also, don’t forget podcasts. There are loads of benefits of listening to podcasts – they’re informative, convenient and don’t always require your full attention.
If you’re worried about being bored whilst going out alone, these things can make it more exciting for you.
Embrace your independence
One of the best things about being alone is that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.
Embrace this freedom and do something that your friends or family wouldn’t usually do. Whether that’s going out for a run, eating at a new restaurant or seeing a movie by yourself.
You can meet new people
If your goal is to meet new people, going to events and places alone is a great way to do so.
If you’re particularly interested in rock climbing, consider going to a climbing gym on your own. You’ll be able to chat with like-minded climbers and get some tips from them. You will immediately have things in common!
Of course, if you’re not interested in meeting new people, then don’t feel any pressure to socialise. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being with and focusing on yourself.
Do what makes you happy
The most important thing is that you do what makes you happy. If being alone fills you with dread, then find ways to make it more enjoyable for yourself. Try different things. Bring along a book. Listen to a podcast.
Fear is one of the most powerful motivators. It can keep us from doing the things we want to do and achieving our goals. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
You can overcome your fear of being alone by gradually exposing yourself to it. Start small and see where you end up. Good luck!
